The Charleston Bakery and Delicatessen celebrated our tenth year and we have certainly experienced a lot of wonderful experiences and memories over that time. We continue to love serving our customers great food and letting you know how important you have been in supporting the store over the years especially with the recent challenges happening in the world. The CB&D hasn't missed a beat along the way from the very start of the Corona virus upheaval and the entire staff rose to the challenge each day and we are blessed to have such a wonderful group of people. At the start we were able to close for 4 days to do a heavy cleaning and sanitizing, some painting, replacing the dining area floor and installing some new equipment. We also updated our menu which was quite a challenge since everything we offer is pretty darn popular and it's a large menu to begin with.
We are thrilled to announce buying our eggs directly from Storey farms on Johns Island delivered fresh twice weekly. This is a much better tasting, looking and healthier egg to serve our customer. It's also a much better egg to use in our baked goods.
On the menu we've added some excellent new choices. Finally after all these years we decided to do shrimp and grits after a lot of experimenting. First we had to know the history of the dish because there are so many variations out there. The final dish we decided to go with is a New Orleans version. Just a better overall flavor than what's normally served in the low country market and hopefully you'll agree. We've added a few ribeye steak items such as a benedict, omelet, a breakfast biscuit and a Philly cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was interesting researching the history of this fabulous sandwich in Philly and visiting the famous operations such as Geno's and Pat's. Certainly worth every penny for this great sandwich. Also added is a beautiful bone in ham steak for breakfast and the "Bless your Heart" breakfast bowl.
This summer we began offering fresh lemonade and when we say fresh we mean fresh. Chick Filet has a great reputation for making the best lemonade so we grabbed their recipe. Getting it right required special ordering large Sunkist lemons and a nifty citrus juice press and dispenser. This is some seriously good Lemonade and we will offer it year round as long as sales stay reasonable during the fall and winter.
The bakers have come up with some fabulous new baked goods which included smaller whole cake choices and larger Brooklyn cheesecakes. These larger cheesecakes are available by the slice and being offerered naked or with fresh raspberry or strawberry swirls. This is the exact receipe used at Jr's in Brooklyn who was the originator of sponge cake based cheesecakes. You can also be pre order whole cheese cakes in two sizes in advance.
Always remember everything you see at the Charleston Bakery and Delicatessen is made in-house. It is a labor intensive process to do so much but that truly assures we deliver excellence in all we do and serve. You certainly deserve that when the cost of going out to eat has gotten a bit pricey. Your patronage is much appreciated and never taken for granted. Look forward to seeing you soon.
